Museum of Zdzisław Beksińki
painting and drawing works from collection of Anna and Piotr Dmochowski
The first exhibition of Zdzisław Beksiński’s works in the City Art. Gallery in Częstochowa took place in 1994. We are waiting patiently for the next one for 9 years and finally we borrowed 49 oil paintings from Historical Museum in Sanok. The exhibition was opened on 14 February 2003. It made a great impression especially on the younger visitors of the Gallery. The essays inspired by the pieces of art were written on the teachers’ initiative. The best works were rewarded by Piotr Dmochowski - Zdzisław Beksiński’s friend and a collector of his works. They were also submitted to the artist. Great popularity of the exhibition and wonderful atmosphere accompanying it resulted in the meeting of Anna and Piotr Dmochowski with the Częstochowa President – Tadeusz Wrona. At that time the idea of Zdzisław Beksiński ‘s Museum foundation was born.
Thanks to Mr and Mrs Dmochowski we have gathered in deposit a great col
lection of 50 paintings and the drawings of Zdzisław Beksiński. For those who want to get know other works of this artist we have prepared multimedia stands where it will be possible to hear what the painter says about art, follow the stages of the creation of a picture, look through his artistic output, analyze the created the created work. Our idea is to gather possibly most information about this exceptional man – the artist – not fully recognized and appreciated.
Zdzisław Beksiński was born in 1929 in Sanok. Was a renowned Polish painter, photographer and sculptor who is best known as a fantasy artist. Beksiński executed his paintings and drawings either in what he called a '„Baroque” or a „Gothic” manner. The first style is dominated by representation, with the best-known examples coming from his 'fantastic realism' period when he painted disturbing images of a surrealistic , nightmarish environment. The second style is more abstract, being dominated by form, and is typified by Beksiński's later paintings. Beksiński was murdered in 2005.
